In a windswept town on the north coast of Ireland, Ciaran faces the harsh reality of losing the only job he’s ever known. Áine, his wife, questions the prospect of thriving in a place that has been forgotten by many. Resorting to guidance from his slightly inebriated priest, Ciaran seeks consolation in persistently praying to Saint Jude, the patron saint of hopeless causes. However, when his prayers are unexpectedly answered, the help he wanted materialises in a way he never could’ve foreseen.

JUDE is an original play by Niko Burns, and is debuting at South London Theatre. It explores the tension between love for one’s homeland and the inclination to leave in search of better opportunities.

Please note that, due to the setting of the play, all characters speak with an Irish accent. Accents are not required for first-round auditions; we will ask you to try an accent in the recall auditions, but it does not need to be good/refined as long as you are willing to have a go!

Jude: (Male, 20s): Of the patron saint variety. Patient, wise, and quick-witted.
