They’ve been friends for years. Then one goes to an anti-war protest, and one doesn’t. One feels let down, one feels justified. One feels abandoned, one feels attacked. One gets spectacularly drunk, one tries to change their life.
From Mike Bartlett, the powerhouse writer of King Charles III, Cock, The 47th, and the TV drama Doctor Foster, An Intervention is a chilling and comical two-hander about what happens when you don’t see eye to eye with the people you love the most. It’s about needing one another, and failing one another. It’s about being honest and being outrageous. It’s about trying to connect in a changing world.
I would particularly love to see actors of global majority ethnic backgrounds and those who consider themselves disabled for either role. All genders and sexualities welcome. I don’t have any set idea of what I’m looking for – I just want to see your personality and how well you engage with the text and another actor.
Content warning: Character A will be required to wear a noose and simulate an attempt to hang themselves, while B will be required to use their strength and dexterity to physically prevent this happening. The specifics of this will be worked out during the rehearsal process to make sure everyone is safe, but please let me know in advance if you would have any difficulties with this.
