Casting: Villa

12 Mar 25

Steve Grist introduces the cast for this gripping drama by Guillermo Calderón, which explores the painful legacy of Chile’s past during Pinochet’s dictatorship, and the nation’s struggle to reconcile with its violent history.

We had an immense response to the audition notice for Villa, with more than 50 people signing up. This was hugely heartening, as a play about a torture and detention site in Chile under the Pinochet dictatorship is hardly mainstream theatre, and I really didn't know how to gauge the level of interest. I was particularly pleased to have signups from the Latin American community.

As a result, I felt blessed to have such an amazing pool of talent to be able to choose from, and the final decision was very difficult. In the end, I'm pleased to introduce three talented actors who are all new to the SLT community. We're looking forward to getting rehearsals under way early in April, and we can't wait to bring you this show from in June.
