Building Update: Lift and Front Door
13 Nov 24
Lift repair update
Just a quick update on the progress to getting the lift working again.
We are currently waiting for the electricians to get hold of a new “Isolator Box” for the electrical supply to the lift. The original problem was identified as being a crack in the ceramic terminals for the electrical supply. This resulted in arcing in the supply box, which tripped a safety switch in the lift and stopped it moving. It was hoped that the replacement of the terminals would fix the problem, but unfortunately this proved not to be the case, and we are now waiting for a new box. Once this is installed by the electricians, the lift engineers will need to return to check that everything is working properly. We are obviously actively chasing, as so many of the theatre functions now rely on the lift.
We have lift engineers on standby, to come along as soon as the part arrives and is fitted.
Current problem with the front door - STILL HAS ISSUES
We also have a problem with the door release mechanism at the moment. Fobs used externally will not open the front door, although the fobs themselves are working fine. Please don’t try and force the door, if the mechanism doesn’t work.
This is obviously a crucial item to get fixed, so please be patient, and if you happen to see another member trying to get into the building please help them do so.
We are attempting another fix 19 November, the mechanical and electrical mechanism have now been dismissed as the cause, we are now looking into a software problem that is suspected as the cause.
Heating
Just a quick reminder that as it is now getting colder, it is more likely that you will need the heating on in the building.
If you need to put the heating on when you arrive this can be controlled by the two white boxes under the cabinet behind the foyer desk. One is for the heating (and warms the radiators), the other is for air handling, and will pump warm air into the auditorium and bar. Each box has an hour button that needs pushing several times to increase the number of hours. Once you have set the number of hours, the other button will switch it on. Note, if you don’t set the number of hours, the heating won’t come on. If you are trying to heat the foyer area, once these have been on for a little while you can put on the over door heaters by using the black switches by the ice cream fridge.
Please don’t increase the radiators above the ‘max’ value in the rooms, details are in each room. If you do then we waste a lot of energy as these rooms heat up too much, while others stay cold.
