By Translated by David Stuttard
Date: 25 Feb - 1 Mar 2025
Time: 20:00 - 22:15
Location: SLT Old Fire Station
A classic story of gods, power struggles, and the dark side of human nature, Bacchae is the ultimate battle of wills, centring on a perfect antihero, following themes of freedom and repression. Dionysus, the god of revelry, arrives in the city of Thebes to prove his divinity. King Pentheus, a rigid and arrogant ruler, refuses to acknowledge him as a god, scorning Dionysus’ followers who have surrendered to a life of ecstatic worship in the wilderness.
What follows is an intense psychological showdown between the two. This play asks timeless questions about the consequences of denying our true nature in a way which still resonates fully today.
